There are different valid approaches. Jupiter in Assiyah is as "Earth plane" as is anything else. Whether this was the right choice for AC is another matter.
I think the bigger issue is that there is no area of practical magick more screwed up than money, and AC certainly had no more realistic view of the nature and meaning of money than most people - in fact, he seems to have been less in touch with it than most. Money is rarely the right object of a working - it's rarely the real purpose. Money is nearly always a means. If money is not the means but an intrinsic end, then that's like asking for constipation.
The magician usually should be indifferent to the means. Don't micro-manage the universe, just make your clear, righteous, relevant demands on it.
PS - I think people keep missing that, with hardly having a day of actual employment in his life (well, there was that stint at The International), he lived quite comfortably during most parts of his life and essentially always had what he needed and more. He had more actual prosperity than 95% of all people you likely know today.
