Telesmatic Images

Jim, in 776 1/2 you recommend the following image for Tiriel; an angel in light grey robe, yellow lion's head, golden eight-fold star medallion on breast, orange sash for belt and a Caduceus in right hand.

I can't see how you get lion's head when I go to 777 http://www.thelemapedia.org/index.php/Hod

Where are you getting the light grey robe and yellow lion's head from according to http://www.thelemapedia.org? Why would that eightfold medallion be golden?

Basically I have never constructed telesmatic images, is there some basic guidebook for beginners available or is a book necessary if we have access to http://www.thelemapedia.org and we know the construction of the Hebrew letters of the names of entities in the Four Worlds?

Well, first of all, I'm not getting anything at all from Thelemapedia, so the question is ill=phrased (and I'm not going to look at the sight right now). All of the attributions I used are based on content in 776 1/2, however. And, if Thelemapedia reproduces 777, then these should all be there, too.

Tiriel is spelled TYRYAL. Tiriel is the expression of Beyth in Y'tziyrah.

Yellow lion's head: The first letter of the name is Teyth = Leo. Light grey robe: Color of Beyth in Prince Scale (Y'tziyrah), and I may have been thinking that it's also close to colors of Yod for the two Yods showing more or less the flow of the garment. The medallion is golden because Reysh is a central letter of the name (on the breast because it's almost half-way down the figure).

I don't know what's in print. I learned the basics from a teacher and then from many years of working with it - as one's astral perceptions ripen, one can test a detail and know if it feels right. We have a long paper with examples in Temple of Thelema's Second Order training, but it's really just a minute detailed presentation of the very simple theory.

The theory is that you are molding Y'tziyratic substance with the chisel of your imagination in order to create a housing that will be suitable for the spirit's occupation, giving expression to its real nature. The most important parts of the technique are that the image must be consonant with the basic nature of the spirit (in this case, "a Mercury entity in Y'tziyrah") and then, within that, build the details of the figure top-to-bottom based on the letters in the name. Then the whole just fit together as a coherent, balanced whole.

So, the "overall impression" is "an angel in a robe colored Beyth in Prince Scale, bearing some sort of Mercury thing." For the individual letters, Teyth says the head is Leo-like (I chose a yellow lion's head), Yod (and the later Yod) say that the main line of the whole body is Yod-like (helps with color, may have tipped me in what variety of implement is in the hand), Reysh says that there is a solar thing next down the body (not half-way through the body, so put it on the chest; but it should not "sign" him as a solar figure since he is inherently Mercurial, so I chose a golden over-the-heart insignia but of a mercurial symbolism). A useful tip is that planetary letters, especially after the first letter, tend to show objects or adornments rather than, say, just another color stripe on the robe. I see I kinda doubled up on the solar figures, because the orange sash about the middle is the same kind of design, so this is a reminder that this process is an art and not mechanical, and I had to go the way the impressions directed me. The -AL usually just expresses itself as "various characteristics that mark an angel."

Does that help?

Yeah thanks I get the general gist of it.

The "Tiriel is spelled TYRYAL" I don't know where you derive that from. Anything about the real spellings of beings in 776 1/2?

What do you mean by "the real spellings." These are traditional spellings, many of which can be found in Rabbinical works from the first millennium, all of which can be found in medieval and Renaissance works. When writing the book, I copied from 777 then cross-checked against every earlier source manuscript I could get my hands on. You'll find this one recorded in column 408, "Planetary Intelligences," on lines 8 and 12.

Recorded in column 408, "Planetary Intelligences," on lines 8 and 12 from 776 1/2? I don't have 777.

Thanks.

Yeah that's awesome. :)

With that said, I'd say Graphiel would have a (Peh path 27) Venetian red robe (Prince scale colour). Then we have gimmel, resh aleph peh yod.

Dog (not camel which is un war-like) headed entity with a solar disk necklace i.e. Gimmel and Resh. Maybe holding a hammer similar to Thor (this integrates the Peh and the Aleph) and a white Yod sash.
