Banishing and the HGA

Postby sk4p » Thu Jun 23, 2016 9:38 am

I can't recall if this has been asked before (even by me!) but some searching suggests it has not. Sorry if I missed an instance.

It's natural that one would banish the Temple in which one is doing the HGA invocation at the beginning of the overall Operation, but does it make sense to banish at the beginning/ending of every individual session? Would not we want the force to accumulate as the Operation progresses? Isn't it enough for the Magician to purify herself before each session in whatever way she is Guided to do?

Or do we feel that the HGA is in some sense "unbanishable" and thus doing a banishing ritual has no real effect on the Adept/Angel bond as it forms, just cleansing the space of undesired crud which is inevitably going to get in?

Or am I being silly for even asking the question since every single HGA opus is different? :)

Well, on my planet, banishing rituals have no effect on my HGA.
Quite the opposite: ruby has this tendency for balancing the 4 worlds, as it were.

HGA is beyond that, in my experience.

Yes, no, it depends. I think an underlying question is how one feels and assumes the several parts of oneself and of macrocosm during those "whole operation" or "individual sessions" and how they combine in a specific case. Also a matter of intention. So an external practice can be whatever in actuality. If you banish from the point of vue of Nuit, who banishes who? The more one advances, the more the meaning of any practice can be very different in many ways. Of course it doesnt change the basic purpose of something(for example, a LBRP is still an LBRP)but there are other layers whose combination can make its use and experience different.

And yes it depends on HGA a lot for the core part but dont underestimate also the role of Nuit(an element of it being the current aeon and respective karma/incarnations, particularities of now)and of magical personna(or true will, and its current potential of manifestation). The balance of these make an individual answer.

Also, at good level one may be able to activate or desactivate at will any part of the whole of a technique or ritual or combination, at least to the extent such thing might be useful for the purpose mentioned here. So such questions may be not significant. The intellect may not need to engage in such thing except for the sake of teaching to less advanced practicionner. Personnal answer comes on automatic level in form of direct vision. To help the increase of those one may practice the tarot and the kabalah and also magick and meditation so the combination of elements from different perspectives is more and more in the sphere of sensation and then in any one of those, one can adjust their combination in terms of manifestation.

And no, if i had to answer a short"yes or no", of course LBRP can only do good and certainly not "banish hga". As a general rule for all basic practices, the more the better. From there precise but the basics tend to be always good to keep as a regular routine. Unless you are sure it is not so in your case. But if in doubt, stick to what most masters say and at least you may not go too wrong.

I shouldn't say "can you banish the HGA" per se. That would be ... weird and problematic, one feels. I meant more of the accumulation of energy over time in the operation, the transmutation of the Adept.

Crowley argues (of rituals in general) that one should banish to get rid of whatever energy was not absorbed in the ritual, lest it degenerate and become evil. In that light I think it probably is quite reasonable. And as you note, Hermes, practicing the essentials never hurts. Jim has noted elsewhere in these forums how LRP is a very useful ritual and not just for banishment.

Thanks for bouncing thoughts back at me. I think I have the answer I sought. :)

OH yeah.

One can _easily_ banish the HGA by doing thus:

Drinking alcohol to excess/eating to excess
Not caring about your life or those around you
Smearing your poo on reflective surfaces in public
Refusing the wine and strange drugs of the Goddess.

The exception is for a eucharist, where the magician absorbs the whole. Think about that in terms of the current question.

My feeling on it is that it scrubs away (****) that obscures the HGA and its influence, rather than scrubbing away the HGA or its influence.
