Progression of Planetary Hours

Postby ThelemicMage » Fri Jun 29, 2012 1:33 pm

I apologize beforehand if this is an extremely easy thing to figure out.

But I was trying to find a pattern of how the planets progressed for the hours of the day/night. It is definitely not distance progression or anything else that strikes me right off the bat. I've been using them for awhile successfully and understanding why, but without knowing how they got there like that. :-)

As well as the days of the week. I believe I had a simple pattern figured out for it but it wasn't distance related. For instance, if you look at the planets on the hexagram and follow them in order of the day, they do kind of a reverse vertical/horizontal kind of ARARITA. But I cannot remember exactly what I had thunk up.

Any help is appreciated.

Hardly a murmur of Time at his loom.
Nothing of sense by the poppy-perfume.

Silence and darkness are weaving a web
Broidered with Nothing at uttermost ebb

Fling the wide veil, O Nuit, on the shame!
Shame from the Knowledge and unto the Name
Hide it, O hide it, in flowers of flame!

See how the Star of the Universe blazes!
Millions of meteors in marvelous mazes
Mingle their magic of peony praises.

The planetary hours progress in the order of the sephiroth from Binah to Yesod: Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, Sun, Venus, Mercury, Moon. (This is also the order of the spheres in the Ptolemaic system of astronomy.) Also, if you put the planets in that order around a circle, and then draw lines between them in the order of the days of the week -- Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, Sun -- it makes a star.

It's the simple Chaldean order, i.e., the sequence of the planets on the Tree of Life.

But - here's the good news! - planetary hours are completely worthless. They have failed every objective astrological test to which they've ever been subjected.

Well, Jim I'd figure one reason is because they are so close together. You would have to find a pattern for days beforehand to work the planetary hours into your work, if they happen to work. They would have to be balanced perfectly with their stronger counterparts in astrology.

Thanks gmgumble, Jim.

Its interesting that even back in the time of the Book of Abra-melin, the author was ranting about the pointlessness of this concept.

In my post teen youth I used the planetary hour system. I admit I had a lot of great success. But we don't know that unless we try it without the planetary system, which as it happens proved just as successful (after having read that it wasn't necessary after all).
