A.'.A.'. Student Syllabus

I've collected and/or have the books coming my way of the Student Syllabus. The only one I haven't acquired is the Rites of Eleusis. I was wondering if it's been published within something else or only on its own? The only copies I can find of its original publication are $100+. I will gladly pay this if needs be but I would rather not if I didn't really need to.

The other question is that once I get it and thus have all of the books, should I e-mail the Cancellaria or is she still out for the count? By the time that I get through the student period and then the Probationer period, I would be in the US to take initiation and receive one on one training.

Would it count if you downloaded a (reliable) version, printed it out, and had it bound at a Kinko's or something? I've done this for a few things (Old & New Commentaries, Liber Aleph, AC's Tao Te King) and they don't look all that bad on my bookshelf. They've even got Bill Heidrick's (sometimes snarky; sometimes hilarious) footnotes! You can design your own cover, include other related short papers, etc.

Assuming of course you can find an inexpensive copy-service like this where you're stationed.

I guess that would be the negative of having Gems From the Equinox, instead of the entire Volume 1 of the Equinox. I would like to eventually collect the entirety of Volume 1. So much to buy though as I also want CoT/ToT's In the Continuum.

Like Steven Cranmer suggested, does printing it out and having it bound count?

are you saying writing to the Cancellaria doesnt work?

i understand the sentiment of waiting until a teacher or the teachings finds you, and all... but how else do you make it known that you are atleast out there? i live in happy valley Utah (home of the LDS church), and in my community, it's really rather unlikely to meet anyone with the same interests as me... and most my friends i know are far out of the known... they ask me silly questions about astrology or my books and all this other stuff that i guess until recently i supposed was just general knowledge kind of stuff.

in any case i keep mostly to myself and cant help but feel a little deprived of some kind of information thats out there... it would be nice to encounter a group of people who could atleast hold intelligent conversation.

there are lots of forrums like this, but i dont spend a huge amount of time in them because it always seems like there is some "social" hierarchy in place and alot of the people develope these self glorifying images of themselves and bash others or their opinions and i dont care to spend the time to become established in those "communnities".

The version on this page should be the right one. You can also google for the phrase "WEH NOTE" and see what other online libri Bill has footnoted.

Eleusis & Rites of Eleusis are two different texts. Rites is the script to a performance Crowley & Waddell(among others) put on in Westminister in 1910. The Eleusis referred to in the Student Reading Curriculum can be found in Vol. III of the Collected Works.

Sorry to bug you more, Jim, but I'm hoping that you're willing to try and help me out some more. First, I want to thank you for hooking me up with the right people in the ToT. Unfortunately, they said that they couldn't work with me, but I wanted to say thanks for hooking me up with them.

Secondly, I've tried e-mailing the Cancellarius again of the Estai/Meral AA lineage and haven't heard back yet after a few weeks now. I was wondering if there's another e-mail that I should be using besides the ordoaa.org one?

I'm in Santa Fe, New Mexico at a conference, and today I saw a complete 10-volume set of Volume 1 of The Equinox for sale in a used bookstore. It's the 1993 Weiser facsimile (hardcover, white leather-bound?) edition, and it looks to be in good shape. The store wants something like $800 for it, but they may negotiate. I don't think they're willing to break up the set. Anyway, the store is "Big Star Books & Music," at 329 Garfield Street, Santa Fe, NM.

I don't have any connection with this store, but I thought that if there were any aspirants to A.'.A.'. studentship out there who are in search of a full Equinox set, this might be a good one to snap up!

The 1993 Weiser edition (All ten issues of Volume One bound into two large white books with also a box to put the books in when it was originally sold) originally retailed for either $300 or $350 (I forget which). It is out of print so is sold as a collectible. You can find copies of it on eBay and Amazon (used/rare etc) as low as $450 today or as high as several thou$and (who do they think I am?). I don't know that you will always find the set with the box it came in (a display box such as many trilogy releases etc come in), but I would doubt that any copy of the book(s) is in less than great condition. I'm not a worshiper of objects or collector type person, so I don't know what I'm looking at sometimes in that respect - I can't tell you the real terms of things, but that paper they use for the book(s) is the same kind old Bibles used, thin and fancy in its way I guess, which makes you respect the page as you turn it - so I've never seen an abused copy yet. In fact, of all the Crowley works I have, my copy of The Equinox Vol 1 is the only one that hasn't been written or drawn on.

Personally, i am not a Crowley Bibliophile... In an age of information, especially free information, it seems rather silly to sweat objects. Everything to me is temporary, so, why waste the money that I could spend on a trip to Amsterdam when I can print up and bind my own Equinox? The information does not change based on the format and, truthfully, I am a very clumsy person having ruined many a book.
