September 17-19, 2014: Knight of Disks

THE LORD OF THE WIDE AND FERTILE LAND;
THE KING OF THE SPIRITS OF EARTH

The Knight of Disks – King of Gnomes
FIRE of EARTH

Meditation pattern: Place 7 of Wands, 8 of Disks, and 9 of Disks side-by-side, with the
Knight of Disks above them. Below the two Disks, place Atu IX, The Hermit.

Traditional Description: A dark, winged warrior with winged and crowned helmet, mounted
on a light brown horse. Equipment as the Knight of Wands. The winged head of a stag or antelope
as a crest. Beneath the horse’s feet is fertile land with ripened corn. In one hand he bears a
scepter surmounted by a hexagram; in the other, a Disk similar to that of the Apprentice Adeptus.

YOD of HEH-Final (FIRE of EARTH): Yod of Earth is the seed-power of earth – the vital,
generative, procreative power of Yod seeding the receiving and fertile earth. From this we obtain the
central idea of this card, expressed in the word “husbandry.” He is also Yod in Assiah, the aliveness
of Creation, evident in every detail of our surroundings. The King is one with the land. Each
thing that is, is right; for it is a consequence of an omnipotent and divine Will.

He rules from above 20° Leo to 20° Virgo. The first two decanates of Virgo, ruled by the Sun and
Venus, are called PRUDENCE and GAIN. What better expression of the quality of husbandry than
this careful, responsible nurturing of his domain? Sun and Venus are themselves representative
of him; for, as the creative power in Earth, he is all that we mean by sunlight; and from Venus is
his nurturing aspect reinforced. He cultivates, be it land, people, or ideas. The solar decanate indicates
intelligence, skill, diligence, care to detail, and industry. With regard to Virgo in general,
we recall that he is Yod, and all that this letter symbolically means to the Qabalist.

His shadow aspect is the last decanate of Leo, ruled by Mars and called VALOR. There are
times his heart aches for heroism; but to indulge it is to abdicate his real focus of care.

In divination, the character is sage, skillful, diligent, attentive to detail, patient in material
matters, hard-working, steady, and reliable; gain through prudence, attentiveness, intelligence,
and labor; generative and procreative; cultivates what is his to develop. Unless well-dignified, he
can be dull and material. If ill-dignified, he is avaricious, grasping, dull, and jealous. Tradition
says he is not very courageous unless assisted by other symbols.

- Earth in its most dynamic mode; starts the projects, begins the business.
- Cares about details; gives full attention to “small” aspects of an undertaking; very practical; intelligent; interested for particular, concrete questions and finding the solutions for current problems; knows the rhythm of sowing and harvesting and takes actions in accordance with these natural cycles, hence he reaps delicious mature fruits.
- Yod in Earth: manifestation of Creative Will into matter = to do the work which is in accordance with own true Nature, to professionally do what is own Call (in the sense as Parker J. Palmer describes it).
- He does not work for honor, recognition, fame, reward etc., he works because that is his Task, his sacred call of Service, and he can not work otherwise. He approaches his task with patience; grain by grain, he sieves and spreads the seed he carries within.

-------------------------

- Modest and diligent, focused onto his work, without pretensions to that which is out of his reach; concentrated mind.
- He is the silent carrier of Indestructible Light.
- Yod in Assiah: 8 and 9-of-Disks show full practical manifestation of own Will; then a new impulse comes through the 7-of-Wands; but if he dwells too much in this phase, he looses his essential characteristic, which is to engage in the work itself, not just to “inseminate it”.
- He is oriented toward Health, in the sense of: functionality of an organism; may be a healer?
- PURITY as essence of Virgo-principle, in the sense of being PRISTINE, being of one-material.
- Yod being the relationship of 6 and 4, this Knight also indicates Memory and uninterrupted consciousness.
- Fertility; principle of materialization in the Creative force.

-------------------------

- Reaping the fruits of own labor; material stability; harmony of physical action and TW as it is manifested in the Kingdom.
- Patient work on details; persistence; organization; routine that makes activities productive.
- He is reclusive, hidden, does not stand out nor impose himself (unless his shadow-side is active); associate and collaborator rather than the leading person, although could be excellent leader because has a natural sense of organization and talent for planning.
- Meticulous; would never sacrifice quality for quantity.
- The Secret Seed; power of self-control in appliance of energy, use of words, etc.
- Virgo-Yod-Hand: accepts and gives; holds; heals; handles matter with precision; there is analogy with developed reason and ego: in its nature is to control; but it can not control itself, it is directed from “above”, controlled by a Higher instance than itself.
(hence, the Hand becomes the Wand, symbol of Yod – Chokmah)
