Liber LXV, Cap II, v. 27
27. Radiant God! Let me fashion an image of gems and gold for Thee! that the people may cast it down and trample it to dust! That Thy glory may be seen of them.
"Write, & find ecstasy in writing! Work, & be our bed in working! Thrill with the joy of life & death! Ah! thy death shall be lovely: whoso seeth it shall be glad. Thy death shall be the seal of the promise of our age long love. Come! lift up thine heart & rejoice! We are one; we are none."

This is the nature of Initiation: the Image must be destroyed, so that the True Glory of the divine may be seen/experienced. But the image itself has its value nevertheless, at the beginning, as a fish-hook for the mind.
